Culture

A lot of us led normal occupations...you know...artisans, craftsmen, and professional people. This not only helped us adapt to new countries but also left a void in French society after we left. We all left France and went to Germany, the Netherlands, England, South Africa, and even British North America. We did not like the influence the Roman Catholic Church had on the individual and therefore, made our own sect.
We believe in Calvinism, or the theology that emphasizes God's sovereignty in all aspects of life. You can call it predestination.

Religion

We are members of the Protestant Reformed Church of France and are also known as the French Calvinists. We were supressed by the Roman Catholic Church and we decided to abandon the Lutheran form of religion and follow Calvinism. Our Reformed religion rests on the idea of salvation through individual faith without the need of a church hierarchy. Our belief was considered a heresy by the Catholic Church (what do they know?!) and the established religion of France. John Calvin founded our first church (go him) and this eventually led to the French Wars of Religion in around 1562. A good name for this religion is Protestand Christianity.

1517': Just heard of this American guy...Martin Luther and his idea of some reformation. I think its coming to France and it sounds like something we would be interested in! All our greivances against the stupid established government can finally be aired through this movement!

1555: John Calvin established our very own church today, guys!How exciting. It is based mostly on his teachings and he hopes it will create more support for our cause and party. This'll show that French government. Take that!

1562:They are messing with the wrong people! Theres word of French Wars of Relgion starting today....let it rain! We can soo take these guys! How dare they massacre us at Vassy today? Totally uncalled for! And then again at St Bartolomeu's day...they massacre a bunch of us again. it's on!

1685: King Louis XIV just declared Protestantism illegal in his Edict of Nantes. This means we are all going to be moving far away from home and each other. Let's try to keep in touch. This blows.
